The Jessie Rees Foundation fills JoyJars with some help from a 100-year-old OC resident and Go Rentals
Newport Beach, California – January 2013 – Go Rentals, Orange County-based elite car rental services company, the Jessie Rees Foundation for Pediatric Cancer and a 100-year old Orange County resident are working together to fill JoyJars for kids in need of some joy.
100-year-old Orange County resident Irene Johnson has been knitting hats for longer than she can remember. She far exceeds the goal of 1-per-day she sets for herself and now she’s even recruited her daughter, Billie Hodges, a 55-year resident of Orange County and put her to work. They’re knitting warm hats to be included with JoyJars from the Jessie Rees Foundation that get distributed to local children’s hospitals and homes. These gifts reach children who are fighting life altering medical illnesses including cancer.
Irene, who was introduced to JoyJars through Go Rentals, has dedicated so much of her time to making hats for children and has been donating them to children’s hospitals for several years. It only makes sense that she would partner with the Jessie Rees Foundation to reach as many kids as possible.
"I'm so honored to have Irene making these special hats for kids fighting cancer. She is simply amazing. Jessie would have loved her hand made hats. She makes each one with love. Irene inspires me to give more to others each and every day," says Erik Rees, Jessie's Daddy and Chief Encouragement Officer at the Jessie Rees Foundation.
This past holiday season, Go Rentals donated JoyJars that included Irene and Billie’s custom-made hats on behalf of its top guests, hotel and resort partners, and team members. The JoyJars campaign generated awareness of the Jessie Rees Foundation and gave others an easy way to contribute to this cause.
About the Jessie Rees Foundation and JoyJars
The Jessie Rees Foundation is an organization inspired by 12-year-old Jessie Rees and was created to fulfill Jessie’s wish that every child fighting cancer would be personally encouraged to Never Ever Give Up (NEGU). JoyJars, created by Jessie during her 10 month fight with cancer, are used to spread hope, joy and love to these children. JoyJars have reached children in over 192 children’s hospitals and over 175 Ronald McDonald Houses in the US and throughout the world.
The Jessie Rees Foundation is estimating to send out over 50,000 JoyJars this year. Jessie, herself, was just honored as CNN’s 2012 Young Hero of the Year. More information is available at NEGU.org.
